Recap/Checklist

Are you ready to get started? Here’s a quick recap on how to get your very own webpage/website up and running:

1. Register (buy) a domain name at a site like www.register.com.

2. Sign up for a website hosting account, at www.lunarpages.com for instance.

3. Buy a webpage-making program, like Dreamweaver.

4. Go back to the place where you registered your domain name (www.register.com) and change the domain name’s DNS numbers to match those given you by your website hosting company.

5. On your personal computer, make a website folder that will hold all of the website files you’re going to make. This folder should contain “images” and “pages” subfolders.

6. Follow the steps to “make a new site” on Dreamweaver in order to connect Dreamweaver to your web hosting account.

7. Upload (put) your website folder’s subfolders (subfolders only) to your space on your website hosting account.

8. Create and upload a home page—a web page saved with the name “index” (index.htm). On your index (home) page, make links so people can get to the other pages you've created.

9. Go to town learning Dreamweaver—and don’t forget to especially focus on how to use tables to organize your website.

10. Stay organized! Especially be sure to do the following things:

A. save all pages (except the index page) in the “pages” folder

B. before using images and graphics, save them to the “images” folder

C. use folders and subfolders liberally—if you have different types of pages, make subfolders in your “pages” folder; if you have different types of images, make subfolders in your “images” folder, etc.

Welcome to the journey of website design…

Have fun!
